Dietary oils enrich eggs

FEEDING the right type of dietary fat and oils to laying hens could produce healthier eggs and achieve a healthier sale price.

Last weeks launch of Colum-bus eggs, which are marketed as being healthier, could help develop a niche market for UK producers. Produced by feeding laying hens a diet containing fish and vegetable oils rich in omega 3 fatty acids, these eggs could reduce the risk of heart disease, blood clots and other heart irregularities, says to Belgian-based egg processor Belovo.

Omega 3 enriched eggs sell for 10p per half-dozen above standard prices, but ADAS poultry specialistsadvise securing a market before beginning production. &#42
