Digital debut at on-line auction
THE first digital on-line auction of cattle will take place on Dec 12 using an electronic link between three centres in the north west.
The connection between Carlisle and Kendal auction marts and Lancashires Myerscough College will enable farmers from each centre to bid for cattle. Each "sale ring" will show digital pictures of the cattle entered and bids will be taken electronically from the three venues.
Clifford Kendal from Kendal Auction Mart said farmers would know immediately if a bid had been placed at the other sale rings.
"This is the first internet style auction of cattle in the region and will help farmers sell breeding and store cattle," added Mr Kendal. *
