Dip your flock now

DIPPING sheep to prevent scab should be carried out now.

Brian Hosie of the Scottish Agricultural College Veterinary Service, Edinburgh, warns that the scab mite is most active in late September and early October. Figures for the past four years also show that scab is increasing.

"Scab irritation prevents lambs from growing, causes foetal losses and triggers pregnancy toxaemia nearer to lambing," says Dr Hosie. He says tups, ewes, replacements and lambs not near sale should be treated with long-acting dip; lambs near sale with short-acting product. &#42
