Disappointment at Lairg Cheviot sale
THERE was disappointment for most parties who attended Lairg in Sutherland for the annual sale of North Country Cheviot hill ewes.
More than 13,000 ewes were entered. But a general trend was for ewes to sell at around £20 less than last year.
One piece of good news came in the announcement that the Welsh-inspired Farmers Ferry is to step up live exports between Dover and Calais from the present weekly total of 17,000 head to 40,000 from next Monday.
