Donaldson warns against food scares
PROFESSOR Liam Donaldson, the governments chief medical officer, has delivered a broadside against the public being misled about their health by scare stories given increasing publicity after the crisis over BSE.
Donaldson is shortly to give a talk at a meeting of the Health and Medical Public Relations Association, entitled “Miracle cures and medical scare stories”.
He will highlight four areas where he believes the public has been missled. These are: the communication of risk, the difference between a cause and an association, judging whether a treatment confers benefit and reporting of error.
