Driver dies after telehandler overturns

A farmworker has died after the telehandler he was driving overturned on a rural lane in North Yorkshire.

The accident took place at 10.15am on Friday 13 March on the lane between the villages of Felixkirk and Kirby Knowle.

The telehandler was said to be have been transporting bales when it tipped over.

Firefighters from Northallerton, Ripon and Thirsk battled to free the trapped driver from the crushed cab of the vehicle.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance also attended but despite their efforts the telehandler driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lane which connects the villages at the foot of the Yorkshire Moors to nearby Thirsk was closed for several hours as investigators examined the accident site.

North Yorkshire Police has asked for anyone with information on the incident to call 101.
