Durham virus restrictions lifted

By FWi staff

MORE livestock movement restrictions have been lifted after tests on a cow suspected of having foot-and-mouth disease proved negative.

Infected-area restrictions were lifted across most of County Durham, with the exception of the Allendale “blue box” area.

Subject to blood testing, animals can now be moved from County Durham to any holdings in Northumberland outside the “blue box”.

Additional patrols in Rookhope, Weardale, where a dairy cow was slaughtered last week as a precautionary measure, have been abandoned.

Test results from the governments laboratory in Pirbright, Surrey were returned showing no signs of the disease.
