Dynamite ram heads top class Lanark Texel entry

By Jeremy Hunt

AN outstanding entry from Allan Cullens Craighead flock achieved the top price of 26,000gns at the Texel breeds main show and sale at Lanark last week.

Craighead Dynamite, a twin-born son of the 15,000gns Craighead Crackerjack, is out of a Courthill Trademark ewe and stood third in the ram lamb class at this years Royal Highland Show.

He was bought from the Carluke-based breeder by Carolyn Hastings, Dumfries; Keith Jamieson, Annan; and Margaret Hope, Ruthwell, Dumfries.

With the Lanark sale ring packed, auctioneer Brian Ross described it as the biggest crowd he had ever seen at this fixture. "Quality was superb this year with a tremendous turnout of tight-skinned sheep with shape and size. Commercial men were confidently paying up to 500gns for crossing tups," said Mr Ross.

John Forsyths noted Glenside flock from Maybole earned a 19,000gns bid for Glenside Drum Major, another unshown lamb. This Muiresk Blondin twin is out of a Bowhall William ewe and went to an Aberdeenshire consortium – the Mairs of Muiresk partnered by William Knox and Margaret Lyon.

Cheshire breeders Boden and Davis, no strangers to the big time at this fixture, invested 17,000gns in J and &#42 Clarks Garngour Diplomat, by the 7000gns Nethermuir Confetti.

Argyllshire based Keith Allan and R Campbell joined Keith Jamieson and G Gray to pay 15,000gns for A Frames North Quarter Deluxe from his flock at Hamilton.
