A DAIRY farm in Cumbria is being linked to an E coli food poisoning outbreak suspected to have affected 25 people.

The worst affected are three children receiving kidney treatment in hospital after the outbreak, which has been traced to Scales Farm in Brigham, Cockermouth.

The children, including an 18-month-old toddler, are being treated at Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary and are said to be in a serious but stable condition.

A further 22 people are suspected to be infected with the bacterium, which is the same strain that claimed the lives of at least 21 people in Lanarkshire in late 1996.
