Early Claire yields well

AUSTIN LUKINS, who farms with his son Allan at Pimperne near Blandford Forum, has had an early crop of Claire, which yielded well. “It has been quite good actually.”

They have combined 4ha (10 acres) so far, and quality appears to be good as well. It was cut yesterday, but the rain has now stopped all harvesting.

“A week ago the wheat was not fit. Now it is beginning to shatter. We now need some sunshine. Late drilled Soissons will be next and then Madrigal.”

They are also contractors, and have combined 200ha (500 acres) of winter barley, oilseed rape and oats. The farm is on chalk.
