Early drilled-Claire combined

RICHARD BRUCKSHAW, who farms at High Ercall near Shrewsbury in Shropshire, has combined 8ha (20 acres) of Claire wheat.

It has an estimated 7.4t/ha (3t/acre) which is below the farm average of 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre). It was combined at 15% moisture, and the specific weight is 70kg/hl. The proteins are within specification.

It was drilled in early September; “this crop caught the drought badly through May and June. The later drilled wheat will be better as they will have benefited from the recent rains.” The soil is light.

The rest of the wheat and Optic spring barley should be fit next week.
