East Anglian supper time
ESSEX and Suffolk FWC harvest supper was held in Great Bromley village hall. The last time it was held there was nine years ago.
The evening was most enjoyable from start to finish. Everything had been so well organised by Ann Fairley whose family farms in this area.
It was pitch dark when I arrived at the hall but inside there was a warm welcome and a hubbub of voices, a lower sound than usual as husbands had been invited.
Our speaker was local farmer Peter Fairs, who told many an amusing tale of country folk. My favourite was of the old lady who had never travelled out of Essex but was overheard chatting about her grandson who was going on a tour to Queensland: "Im not sure where it is," she said, "but hes got to get the 7.15am bus from Long Melford."
