Eclipse puts NFU on the alert
THE National Farmers Union (NFU) has set up a round-the-clock hotline to help its West Country members cope with problems arising from the eclipse of the Sun next week.
Its action comes in response to fears that the huge influx of people into the counties of Devon and Cornwall for the event will cause disruption to farming operations.
The NFU said unauthorised camping was one of farmers biggest fears. It intends to help members take legal proceedings if farmland is invaded.
The Country Landowners Association is also advising its members on ways of blockading entrances and taking legal advice over any trespass.
