Eco-warriors raid on GM crops
THE Scotsman reports on environmental activists who are threatening to destroy genetically altered crops in 40 sites across Scotland.
They have issued the threat after mounting a weekend raid on a Government research site and uprooting a crop of genetically altered oilseed rape before it could flower and release its pollen.
The attack on the Scottish Agricultural College site at Boghall Farm, West Lothian, followed raids on similar sites in Aberdeenshire and Fife.
The oilseed rape at the farm contained a gene taken from soil bacteria designed to make it resistant to glusofinate, a non-selective herbicide that kills any plant with which it comes into contact.
