EDGING BACK AGAIN…

IT HAS been a long old slog. But pig prices are finally edging their way up towards break-even, providing some much needed hope for the industry.

To survive, production costs on many farms have been pared down, including labour costs. Pigs are never a low labour option, but where there are fewer staff, experts in this update say tasks should be reappraised to see whether there is a more effective option.

Surviving the crisis has been a struggle for most producers. But ensuring your business is prepared to take advantage of better prices – and service debt – is vitally important. That is why FARMERS WEEKLY, FWi and Andersons are offering free advice at the Pig and Poultry Fair at Stoneleigh, Warks, on May 12 and 13. Fill in the details on p4, or just come along to stand no 176 for some sound business advice.
