Environmental campaigners
blamed for flattening GM crops

THE Arable Research Centre (ARC) yesterday accused eco-warriors of destroying a field of genetically modified (GM) oilseed rape two weeks ago at an undisclosed site in Gloucestershire.

Director Michael Carver said it had put back ARCs ability to determine whether the crops were of value.

The ARC, based in Daglingworth, Gloucestershire, is Britains largest independent agricultural research organisation. It has been experimenting with GM foods at 330 sties for four years.

Friends of the Earth (FoE) has been posting information on the Internet about the work of farmers co-operative trials of GM crops. It claimed it did not get involved in direct action.
