EU ban on livestock parts delayed to January


THE European Union postponed a ban on imports of potentially infectious livestock parts until next January.

Farm ministers asked the European Commission to suggest changes to a proposed ban. It had been due to take effect today as part of the armoury against bovine spongiform encephalopathy.

But the Commission is sceptical of the chances of producing changes acceptable to all member states.
