EU milk quota rise?

THERE is no evidence to suggest that the EU is planning an increase in milk quotas, says the NFU.

Some industry insiders have predicted a one-off rise of 1% this year, to cope with the increased world demand, and higher prices, for butter and skim-milk powder.

But Julie Smith, the NFU milk and dairy produce adviser, said a quota increase was most unlikely.

She said normally when world prices were "overheating" as they are at the moment for butter and skim, the commission would release intervention stocks to cool the market. But, with almost no intervention stocks available, that is not an option this year. &#42
