EU pig experts to meet
A EUROPEAN UNION (EU) meeting of national experts on pigmeat production is scheduled to take place in Brussels this Wednesday 910 February).
Prices across Europe have fallen by 26% since August. The EU has three times raised export subsidies and now plans to send an extra 100,000 tonnes of pigmeat to Russia on food aid.
France would prefer a compulsory piglet slaughter scheme, but this is opposed by Spain, Ireland, the UK and Denmark.
