EU threat to tractor hours
By FWi staff
EU red tape could force thousands of farmers off their tractors because they vibrate too much, reports the Daily Express.
Farm minister Nick Brown warned EU agriculture commissioner Franz Fischler the draft law would have a severe impact on struggling farmers.
Draft Health and Safety rules to be discussed by Social Affairs ministers next week seek to limit the time people work with vibrating machinery.
Exposure to “total body vibration” would be limited to three hours a day to protect their backs.
But Britain fears that tractors could be caught up in the rules and hit producers who may be in the cab round the clock at busiest times in autumn.
