EU-USA hygiene deal a step nearer
AN agreement made between European farm ministers and US Government officials could pave the way for bilateral recognition of European and American hygiene inspection rules.
The “veterinary equivalency” deal is one of a series of agreements the EU is brokering with trading partners. The agreements are aimed at facilitating trade in animal and animal products.
Farm ministers were due to start talks last night on EU plans to delay implementation of a ban on “specified risk material” in cattle. The USA says such a plan constitutes an unnecessary trade restriction.
