Excellent trade for Lleyn ewes

DEMAND for the versatile and prolific Lleyn ewe continues to gather pace and the breed societys first major sale of the season produuced an excellent trade.

The traditional gathering at Gaerwen drew 1400 sheep and saw a top female bid of £230 apiece paid for ewes (sold in pens of eight and more). It came for sheep from C P and &#42 Sackville Hamilton, Acklam, Yorks, taken by D S and M T Varey, Middlewich, Cheshire.

Ewe lambs reached £150 a head for stock consigned by A Wynne Davies, Morfa Nefyn, Pwhelli. Buyer was D W Davies, Preston. Top call for shearling rams was 1260gns given twice for tups sold by Wynne Davies and W J Williams, Pwhelli. Buyers were D W Morris, Llanboidy and Brian Atkinson, Penrith.
