Eye on IACS area
SATELLITES will again check IACS claims this year, following the successful identification of a "small but significant" number of false claims last year.
The technology, together with aerial photography, showed some crops were being grown on ineligible land. Elsewhere set-aside followed temporary grass. "These applicants will now be subject to penalty, by losing all or part of their compensatory payments," comments minister of state for agriculture Michael Jack.
The area-based compensation checks will be conducted by The National Remote Sensing Centre at Farnborough, Hants, on behalf of MAFF.
