THE 2001 edition of Dairy Facts and Figures is now available from The Dairy Council.

The 277-page pocket-sized book is said to provide the only source of up-to-date information on UK and European trends. These include milk production, consumption, marketing and nutritional value.

It reveals bleak statistics of foot-and-mouth culling and falling production, but also increases in farm gate milk prices during the year.

Interesting facts include dairy products account for 11.5% of the total grocery spend and total liquid milk sales for Great Britain were 5782m litres. Copies cost £50 each (020-7659 7307, fax 020-7408 1353).
