Farm briefing for MPs

EDUCATING politicians about farming and rural issues is the aim of a new group, the Agricultural and Rural Parliament Trust, launched this week.

Trustees include former NFU president Sir David Naish, and Norman Coward, agricultural director at Midland Bank.

MPs with little or no knowledge of rural issues will be invited by the trust to visit the countryside to study the farming community at work and play.

The initial work of establishing the trust began last year, with the backing of party leaders and the Speaker of the House of Commons, Betty Boothroyd, all of whom have agreed to become patrons.
