A farmer has died following an accident on a family farm in the Shetlands.

Bryden Budge, 46, from Bigton, suffered fatal injuries in the incident, which happened at Bigton Farm on Tuesday (14 October).

Emergency services attended the farm at 10am but were unable to save Mr Budge.

Police Scotland are not treating his death as suspicious and said it was a “tragic accident”.

The Health and Safety Executive in Scotland has been informed and is helping with a report to be submitted to the procurator fiscal – the Scottish public prosecutor responsible for investigating sudden deaths.

Mr Budge’s death has devastated the Shetland farming community. A popular figure among farmers he was also director of Shetland Livestock Marketing Group.

He was a keen footballer and played for his local team Quendale and Ness United as a goalkeeper.

Mr Budge leaves behind his wife Helen and three children.
