Farmer held for eating leopard

A CHINESE farmer has been arrested for killing and eating a leopard, the Chinese state news agency said.

The farmer from a village in north-east China is alleged to have shot a female leopard with a gun and shared the meat with his neighbours.

The leopard is protected in China as an endangered species.
