Farmer saved after silo ordeal

A FARMER was saved after five hours trapped in a grain-filled silo.

More than 30 people helped to rescue Anthony Clarkson from being sucked into the grain and suffocating at Wayside Farm, Whittingham, Preston, Lancashire.

Fireman gave him a breathing mask and used a harness to keep him away from the centre of the silo, into which he was sinking.

Other rescuers prevented grain on the outer edges of the 50ft silo while fire crews cut a small hole in the bottom of the silo to allow the grain to trickle out.
