A Cambridgeshire farmer has been shot after disturbing two intruders near outbuildings on his land.

The man was injured on Saturday (20 February) at the property in Ely Road, Waterbeach, as he went to investigate a noise in the early hours of the morning.

As he confronted the intruders one of them fired a gun before fleeing the farm.

He sustained a minor injury but did not require any medical reatment.

Cambridgeshire Police said the men, who were dressed in dark clothing, escaped towards the A10 where a white van was waiting for them.

Despite a police helicopter search the men were not found.

Detective Inspector Matt Potts said: “I would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of the A10 late last night.

“Any information, no matter how small, could prove vital in tracing those responsible.

“Thankfully the victim was not seriously hurt and incidents like these are extremely rare.

“However, I would urge anyone who thinks there may be intruders on their property to always call 999 and stay in a safe place until police arrive.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
