FARMERS are bracing themselves for fresh misery as forecasters predict renewed flooding across swathes of the country.

The Environment Agency has issued 32 flood warnings after half an inch of rain fell overnight in the south.

Flooding is a risk in Hampshire, Sussex and Kent — areas which have already been badly hit this winter.

The effects of the rain may not be felt until Saturday (6 January) when river run off could pour onto saturated ground and lead to standing water.

The National Farmers Union has already estimated that 500 million has been lost in damaged crops.

Many farmers have also reported that floodwaters have made sowing impossible.
