FARMERS are preparing to lobby the new Liberal Democrat farm spokesman, prior to a debate on agriculture in the House of Commons tomorrow (Wednesday).

Tim Bennett, NFU deputy president, will lead a delegation of about a dozen farmers to meet Colin Breed, Liberal Democrat spokesman for agriculture.

Mr Bennett said: “It is important that MPs have a full and clear understanding of the crisis in UK agriculture and the rural economy at this time.

“We will use every opportunity to ensure that those able to influence policy are armed with the facts and able to fight the corner for British agriculture effectively.”

The afternoon debate has been scheduled at the request of the Lib Dems and is expected to be well attended, coming in the opening week of Parliament.
