Farmer’s refusal to allow GM crops test ‘a serious blow’

ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners hailed a farmers decision not to allow field trials of genetically modified oilseed rape on his property as “a serious blow” to the chemical giants.

Peter Lemon, of Wilton, Wiltshire, said such crops should not be grown on farms until regulatory bodies had satisfactorily answered concerns about them.

Monsanto, which is running the trials throughout Britain, said it already had to satisfy the Department of the Environments rules.
