Farms link with children in £50,000 educational initiative
THE Royal Northern Agricultural Society and the Scottish Farm and Countryside Educational Trust have launched a £50,000 initiative to give 80,000 schoolchildren a day trip to a farm.
The scheme, introduced at Upper Kinknockie, Mintlaw, intends to link schoolchildren from north-east Scotland with a local farm, and to give each school a specially designed “Working Countryside” resource box. This contains a CD-ROM on farming and the environment.
The long term aim is to interest older children in a farming career or a career in related industries.
