Fish death blamed on slurry pollution

FARM slurry has been blamed for polluting a tributary of the River Tywi, near Johnstown, Carmarthen, killing hundreds of trout and young salmon.

Environment Agency officials were called to the scene late last week after a member of the public reported seeing a number of dead fish in the Tawelan brook.

The EA would not reveal details of the farm involved, pending a decision, expected within a couple of weeks, on whether to prosecute.

An official said investigations indicated that a valve on a slurry tank had not been fully closed. &#42
