Five join JD compact range

By Mike Williams

FIVE new models have been added to the John Deere 4000 range of compact tractors, joining the 20hp 4100 model launched earlier this year.

The tractors are based on three different frame sizes. The biggest frame size has two models, the 4500 and 4600 powered by four-cylinder diesel engines with 39hp and 43hp output. They slot into the John Deere range just below the 5000 series, and offer a choice of transmission options including the PowrReverser gearbox with 24 speeds forwards and in reverse and a shuttle control which can be operated without using the clutch pedal.

Maximum lift capacity on the rear linkage is 1421kg at the end of the link arms, and both big frame models can be supplied with a front linkage. Like all the 4000 range, the tractors are available with a ROPS frame or a cab and with turf or agricultural tyres, and there are front-end loaders available to suit all models.

Three mid-frame models have three-cylinder engines with outputs from 26hp to 36hp. The SyncReverser transmission option has 12 speeds available forwards and in reverse through a shuttle control, and the hydraulic system has a gear drive pump delivering up to 2500 psi and providing up to 1148kg lift on the rear linkage.

The fifth new arrival is a hydrostatic drive version of the 20hp 4100 model, which was previously available only with a mechanical transmission.

All the 4000 series tractors are powered by Yanmar engines and, apart from the Japanese built 4100 models, they are all built in America. They will be marketed through John Deeres specialist turf and garden equipment dealers and will be available in the UK in September.

Four-wheel drive is standard and prices start at £9900 for the gear drive 4100, and the 43hp 4600 model is priced at £18,872 complete with a cab. &#42
