Food agency back on track?

By FWi staff

AGRICULTURE Minister Nick Brown has called for politicians from all parties to help push through plans for a Food Standards Agency.

“We hope to make progress on the necessary legislation in the present session,” Mr Brown told the House of Commons yesterday (Thursday).

Proposals for a food agency were omitted from the Queens Speech, which sets out the Governments priorities for the coming year.

But Mr Browns statement means that work on setting up an agency could go ahead anyway.

A draft measure regarding a Food Standards Agency will be published for consultation in next month, he told MPs.
