Food premises plans worry safety experts

By FWi staff

FOOD safety experts are concerned about the governments decision to reject comprehensive licensing of food premises under the Food Standards Agency.

They also said the proposal to exempt food manufacturers from the levy to help fund the new agency is unjustified on public health grounds.

Professor Sir Hugh Pennington said a self-funding licensing system for all food businesses was a better option than the proposed flat-rate £90 levy on outlets.
