Four in line for Smithfield title

THE Royal Smithfield Club has named four finalists shortlisted for its annual award for the person who has made an outstanding contribution to the British meat livestock industry.

Devon NFU chairman, David Hill, has been nominated, alongside former Smithfield Club president Frederick Mallion, poultry and sheep processor David Maunder and UK Meat Industry Training Council chairman Alan Stevenson.

The winner of the award – who will be presented with the Bicentenary Perpetual Trophy – will be announced at the clubs annual industry dinner tomorrow (Dec 1) after the second National Festival of Meat at Smithfield Market, London.
