French farmers on the warpath
FRENCH farmers are preparing to retaliate against Britain if a threatened anti-French boycott gets serious.
Jean-Bernard Bayard, president of the Pas de Calais farmers union, said French farmers could “block British products on their arrival at French ports if the boycott of French products takes off across the Channel”.
But the French public was told yesterday (Sunday) that the British boycott was isolated to lesser supermarket chains and not supported by the Blair government.
French officials said they were grateful to London for its restraint. They blamed British tabloid newspapers for the “over-excitement” in Britain over the row.
