French in tight spot over farm reform
THE Financial Times reports on Frances determination to keep its farmers happy by refusing to budge over reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
Frances refusal to back down has threatened its political relationship with Germany, says the newspaper.
Paris is determined to see as little change as possible in CAP, whereas Bonn wants to see radical reform.
The paper also examines the strains between Europes other allies, concluding that the row over CAP reform could trigger a “subtle rebalancing of power in Europe”.
