THERE is an old saying that youre only six handshakes away from someone you know and this proved to be true at the Royal Highland Show.
In the handcrafts building I was enthralled with the entire exhibition but especially Rhoda Robertsons Contrasts in Crochet where she was demonstrating Tunisian crochet. What a variety of textures from plain wool, through mohair to satin ribbons she used to make such a variety of garments and accessories.
Anyway, when I admitted having made a blanket 30 years ago but never having finished it off properly, Berwickshire member Chris Lucas who was standing next to me said she thought my face was familiar!
Chris and I sat in the brilliant sunshine to watch her husband David and daughter Sian lead their Aberdeen Angus cattle into the ring. This family moved to the Scottish borders from Wales 8 years ago and in Chriss words their farm is "just a little ripple in the pond of life but its theirs."
The showground is laid out in such a way that you you cant help but bump into friendly Scots members at every turn. It was a delight to catch up with FWC news from the four groups over the border.
