FUW welcome for royal sentiments

PRINCE Charless public support last week for small family farms has been welcomed by the Farmers Union of Wales.

The princes statement that the potential loss of these farms was a national disgrace (News, Oct 30) was hailed by FUW president Bob Parry as a "resounding vote of confidence" in the family farm structure. And he hoped those responsible for agricultural policy and support would take note.

"The princes comments are very welcome during this period of agricultural crisis when so many small, family farms face an uncertain future," he said.

His comments represent a forceful recommendation of the family farm structure and small farms, many of which are teetering on the brink of insolvency," Mr Parry said.
