FUWpays tribute

THE Farmers Union of Wales used its annual conference to honour two leading charities for help given to farmers during the foot-and-mouth crisis.

Representatives of the ARC-Addington Fund and Royal Agricultural Benevolent Fund (RABI) were presented with engraved silver salvers to mark their organisations "outstanding services to Welsh farming".

Delegates heard that the fund had distributed over £10.2m since March 2001 to help offset some the extra costs faced by agricultural and kindred industries, and later non-agricultural rural businesses. Of this, £3.5m was directed to Wales.

RABI chief executive Tony McMahon reported that institution had helped over 8500 farming families during recent traumatic times. &#42

He added that any farmers and farm workers still struggling to pay domestic bills should call without delay.
