Gene found for flood-resistant rice
SCIENTISTS at Kasetsart University in Thailand have discovered the gene which allows rice to survive longer under water.
The discovery could mean improved crops for farmers growing rice on Asian river floodplains where water levels cannot be controlled.
The Thai laboratory is one of seven around the world taking part in a £1 million research project funded by the European Union and co-ordinated by Bristol Universitys Long Ashton research station.
