AS I travel around the country I meet such interesting people, not only FWC members but kind souls who are so helpful when I get lost. When I arrived in Carlisle it took three attempts to find my way into the city centre.

My visit clashed with John Major coming to town, I hope he appreciated all the policemen lurking around every corner.

I visited Zanna Johnstone, contact leader for the Cumbria Borders who was unwell. Her sister Ruth served us a delicious lunch before I went to the FWC meeting.

The speaker was Andrew Humphries from Newton Rigg College. He told us the history of the college and explained its aims and ideals, which are to give affordable education to ordinary people.

He brought along some interesting old certificates and farming memorabilia, which the members enjoyed studying.
