Gleam boosts yields despite BYMV
I HOPE Gleam becomes a variety that the maltsters want to use.
Farming on land affected with barley yellow mosaic virus (BYMV), this variety is irreplaceable and has pushed up our yields this season – our first year of growing it.
Although BYMV was only apparent in a small area of a couple of fields, I am sure it exists at sub-clinical levels over a much wider area. That is why Gleam has yielded much better than Puffin, which we grew in previous years.
