Gloom for cereal farmers
THE Home Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA) delivered a gloomy prognosis for cereals farmers at an Allied Grain conference at Berwick-on-Tweed.
Alastair Dickie, chairman of the HGCAs information committee, told delegates that politicians were unlikely to help the sector.
He also warned delegates that the European Commission would probably chip away at the Agenda 2000 proposals already agreed.
He forecast that arable farm incomes this year would be well below 1997-98 levels of profitability.
