GM crops seek better publicity
MONSANTO is signing up Third World political leaders in a bid to gain world-wide acceptance for genetically-modified food.
The US agrochemical company commissioned Global Business Access, a Washington-based lobbying firm, to write to leading African politicians to seek their endorsement of its advertising campaign in support of the use of biotechnology in food.
It wants to use the adverts to influence public opinion in the US and Europe, according to a report in the Times.
Monsanto claims to have already secured the support of several influential names to help with the proposed advert, which is likely to appear this summer. *
