GM food ‘safer than coffee’

GENETICALLY modified food is safer than a cup of strong coffee, according to Janet Bainbridge, chairman of the Advisory Committee on Novel Foods.

Professor Bainbridge bases her remarks on the fact that coffee can contain 10% of a lethal dose of caffeine, plus trypsin inhibitors.

She said the genetic structure, the nutritional values, and the potential toxicity of GM food was closely monitored.
