GMs offer benefits
GENETICALLY modified maize wont be grown commercially in the UK this year, but when it is introduced it will offer benefits that may be exploited in a sensible, controlled way, NIABs Simon Kerr told the conference.
A maize variety resistant to Glufinosate ammonium – Agrevos Liberty – is being tested by NIAB for MAFF. The technology may be exploited to increase margins, particularly in fields with high weed burdens or for weeds which are difficult to control such as Black Nightshade, he said. *
